Explainer Animations | The Helpful Boost | SecuritySco

Intro

In a previous blog we discussed visualising the new book from the CEO of SecurityScorecard. Here we’ll follow on, taking a look at our recent explainer animation visually explaining how SecurityScorecard Transforms the Way Organizations Understand and Communicate Cyber Risk.

What Is An Explainer Animation

An Explainer Animation is exactly what it says on the tin. It explains the services or products that a company provides. It can also be used to promote certain features of a product that may not be well known. Explainer Animations may simply just explain a simple concept, such as fire safety, which can then be used to advertise a service or a product, like a fire blanket.

The Ideation Session

This ideation session was different than when we were preparing illustrations for the perfect scoreboard. One of the first steps was to go over the script and from that garner what message SecurityScoreboard wanted to send and what story they wanted to tell. The design, movements and imagery would then be described and put steadily into practice.

Again, using the imagination of the client and following how they saw the project moving forward. This is an important aspect of ideation, allowing a client to push forward their vision for their product will generate far more productive results than simply looking at a brief.

After all this was done and we made sure we had created the animations correctly and got the message just right, we were ready to move forward onto the last piece of the puzzle.

Telling An Engaging Story

Even though Explainer Animations tend to be short, it is incredibly important to tell a good story. The average attention span of a human being is 8 seconds. That's just 8 seconds to grip someone with interesting visuals and then hold their attention with an interesting premise.

This is easily done on paper by applying facts to a rough story, which avoids giving the impression of just telling facts to an audience. This way instead allows the brain to follow what it is hearing, understand it and may be more willing to use a product or service.

This is then tied together with the visuals. These will be the force that grips the brain whilst also explaining the story the audience is hearing with visuals, allowing the brain to connect the information its hearing and understand it better than it would with just audio.

Conclusion

Explainer Animations are incredibly useful and SecurityScorecard actually increased their engagement and grew their views by 70% just by using one. So it just goes to show how much simply adding visuals to information, especially animated ones can help people to engage with your work.

It was absolutely amazing working with Security Scorecard and would love to again in the future! The team is full of ideas and really got us thinking about cyber security.
