5 Things We Learned About YouTube
1. Premieres
YouTube Premieres is a feature that YouTube introduced mid-way through 2018 and has been utilized by multiple YouTubers and Influencers to generate hype for their videos.
It's a great way to pull viewers in as it add a sense of grandeur to the release of a video. It also allows for YouTube to notify subscribers that a video is coming.
This also leads into another aspect of YouTube Premieres, the Top Chat. The Top Chat allows you to engage with your audience in real time as the video Premieres. This allows you to take in feedback and apply to any future videos whilst also responding to any questions that may come up.
2. Upload Timings
Upload Timings are so, so very important for how a video is received. By combing through pages of websites that show data on what days and what times to upload your videos.
In all honesty, it depends on the content your uploading to YouTube. For a younger audience, 10am on a Friday or a Saturday morning seems to be the best.
For a more mature audience an evening upload, around 5pm, seems the best time. Either at the beginning of the week (Monday/Tuesday) or at the end (Friday/Saturday).
This is entirely down to when these groups are more active on YouTube at those times. This effects what videos are pushed by the YouTube algorithm. The YouTube algorithm brings us forward to the next point.
3. Video Length
Video length has shifted back and forth over YouTube's History. Towards it inception shorter videos often found their way to the top of YouTube watch lists.
Now YouTube prefers longer form videos that are uploaded at-least on a weekly basis. YouTube Channels that upload on a monthly basis with short form videos, tend to be pushed down the algorithm.
Over the History of YouTube uploading schedules have also become more and more important. Videos of 10 minuets in length perform the best due to their ability of have adverts in the beginning, middle and the end of a video.
This has lead to an interesting trend of longer and longer videos appearing on YouTube. Although, with the success of TikTok, YouTube has also made a push in the opposite direction.
4. YouTube Shorts
YouTube Shorts is simply put, TikTok, on YouTube. Short clips from videos or just short videos of around 10 seconds being uploaded once or twice per day.
Multiple channels have found success purely uploading short-form videos on YouTube in a weird reverse of the longer form video trend that has persisted for the last two years.
It is worth noting, YouTube shorts have not taken on adoption by vast amounts of YouTubers and influencers. Most of the use of YouTube shorts comes from channels dedicated to their use.
5. Video Descriptions
Video descriptions are incredibly important for the YouTube algorithm. Much like hashtags on TikTok or Instagram, the descriptions in YouTube videos help the algorithm push your videos to the correct audiences.
In theory this allows for people who will be interested in your content to access it more easily. Although in practice this isn't a perfect system.
YouTube video descriptions also allow you to link your other social media profiles, as well as your own website. This allows you to introduce your YouTube audience to other avenues of accessing your content or business.
Conclusions
In conclusion, YouTube is a powerful business tool and it is important to make use of it where possible.
You also do not need to be an influencer to use YouTube successfully. There are many forms of contents on the platforms and you do not need to fall into all the points above.
