Visual Learning
Visual Learning is an interesting new way for people of all ages to learn. But is it better than traditional learning methods?
What Is Visual Learning?
Visual Learning is rather self-explanatory. Its simply the act of learning via imagery rather than text books.
Visual Learners will retain information far easier if shown via a colourful graphic or allowed to see something performed in front of them. This is separate from Auditory Learning which is learning via hearing information.
Can Visual Learning Help?
Around 65% of the population are Visual Learners. This means that a majority of people will respond better to Visual Stimuli than a text book.
For many this means that regular schooling doesn't adequately allow their brains to absorb information. This passes onto every day work life. How many times have you seen a big pile of paperwork as a mountain of text even the bravest explorers dear not climb?
90% of the information processed by the brain is Visual. The Retina has 40% of the body's Nerve Fibers linked to it. Put all these facts together and the outcome is simply yes. Visual Learning can help greatly for a large portion of people.
Obviously this doesn't apply to Auditory (those who receive and retain more information via listening) or Kinesthetic (Using the hands and practice to process information) Learners. These groups will benefit from different forms of learning.
Is Visual Learning Better?
This entirely depends on the person. A majority of people will resound far better to brightly coloured Visuals. If your giving a presentation you will most likely get a far better response if you utilize Visuals.
This doesn't mean it will be helpful fro everyone as mentioned above. But it does shoe that large blocks of text often don't help. Visuals are the most helpful teaching tool. They have great versatility from pre-school to film posters to board room meetings.
The Human Race evolved as Predators, this means we process Visual Information faster, 60,000 times faster to be exact. In fact the Visual only has to last for 13 Seconds and the Brain will have time to process it.
So will Visual Learning help, in most cases yes, Humans are (mostly) programmed to learn Information Visually.
Conclusion
Visuals is the objectively the best tool for Learning. Although they should be supplemented with Auditory and Practical work.
In a class room, Students will (often) remember more if Information is presented in a Visual format. In an important pitch, clients or investors will understand what your pitching better.
In conclusion, Visual Learning is an amazing thing that should be Utilized.
