5 Ways To Network

Networking is an important part of building a Business. Finding suppliers, collaborators, clients, publishers, the list goes on and varies in every conceivable way. Here’s a few small tips to help you out.

Friend Of A Friend

This is the old fashioned way. If you want to get into that industry, you need to get to know people in that industry. So, start showing off your skills and using your current list of contacts to see where it goes.

Your old music teacher may know someone that works for a record label. Your friend who plays Sunday league football may know a talent scout. Your friend who draws for a hobby can invite you to a small club where you meet someone who can help you get into visual storytelling. You never know unless you reach out to the network you already have in place.

Social Media

The purpose of social media is for people to talk to each other, so talk! Make TikToks about what you can do and find like minded people, following a growing list of connections. @ people on Twitter or drop a DM if you can. Send a message on Instagram. The worse they can do is ignore you.

Find your way into Whattsapp groups and join some groups on facebook. The connections are out there, you just need to be able to push to find them. It may take several tries but eventually you will make the right connections.

Doodleledo

Doodleledo is the place where anyone can draw. A fun event for you to sit down and meet people in varying fields and have a laugh. This creates an environment to find new friends and connections, all whilst having a good night out!

By the end of the night, you’ll find yourself saying, anyone can draw!

LinkedIn

This has become the modern way many will build their network. LinkedIn is essentially Facebook for professionals, displaying your experience, where you’ve worked, who you’ve worked with and even gathering recommendations for future work!

This space makes networking easier and is a more streamlined version of the Social Media tip, but don’t forget places like Instagram and Facebook. Always try every avenue.

Networking Events

If you want, you can try traditional networking events. These are often tailored to your field, such as Visual Communication, TV and Film, Publishing, etc. So this may be a real help depending on what industry you find yourself in and where you see yourself in the future.
